What MilFams Say:
This school is outstanding! There is a competitive peer group, due to proximity to UCSD and many biotech firms. Every class has GATE and seminar (advanced) students. The faculty and staff help families feel welcome. They took the time to get to know students personally. Students are supported or challenged academically as needed. Social and emotional supports are provided. The school communicates regularly with parents. This school has a very active PTA and most classes have daily parent volunteers. PTA funds pay for PE, choral music (TK-3rd), technology and art consultants. A very involved parent community makes this school a real gem. Aside from supporting thru classroom volunteerism, parents lend their talents through the science nights & astronomy nights (using our highly educated science committee parents), multicultural fairs (this is a diverse international community due to Biotechs & UCSD), Curie Play, Lego Robotics, games days, spring sing, etc. There are not many military families at the school but they are a very supportive community. The closest base (MCAS Miramar) is ~15 min away, but NASNI was our base and it was 20-25 min drive with good traffic. University City has a small town feel. Many Curie students also live just over the 52 in Clairemont and “choice in”. Great school! Great community!
